2025 R-1 Main Residency Match – first iteration
If you have not previously participated in a CaRMS match, you can register here starting July 10, 2024 at 12:00 (noon) ET.
You will notice that there are milestones and deadlines listed in this timetable. Milestones are simply recommended dates designed to help you keep your application on track during each phase of the application process. These milestones are not deadlines.

September 2024
11 September 2024 at 12:00 (noon) ET
Applicants may begin the application process.
Current year Canadian medical graduates (CMGs), are sent an email with information on how to log into CaRMS Online and start their application.
Applicants who participated in a previous match can log into their CaRMS Online account using their existing username and password to participate in the match. Anyone who has forgotten their username or password can click on the ‘Forgot your username or password’ option on the CaRMS Online login page.
Applicants who are not current year Canadian medical graduates (CMGs) and do not already have a CaRMS Online account, will need to register for the match.

Program descriptions for all programs participating in the match should be approved and available on carms.ca for applicants to review. Once program descriptions are approved, they are immediately available on carms.ca for applicants to consult.
October 2024
8 October 2024 at 17:00 ET
Applicants who would like their references to be translated through the CaRMS-facilitated translation service must make the request through CaRMS Online by today to allow sufficient time for translation before file review begins. References must be available in the applicant’s CaRMS Online account in order for us to process the translation.
All requests for the translation of references submitted before the deadline are guaranteed to be completed and uploaded into the applicant’s CaRMS Online account before the opening of file review.
We will continue to process translations that are requested after this date, but, due to the high volume of requests, we cannot guarantee they will be available in applicant accounts before file review begins.
11 October 2024 at 12:00 (noon) ET
Faculties must send their students MSPR’s to CaRMS by this date so that applicants can request for the translation in their CaRMS Online account prior to the applicant translation request deadline for MSPR’s of October 17.
Applicants can verify whether documents have been received through the Document Tracking section in CaRMS Online.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure their faculty is aware that their MSPR must be sent on October 11 as opposed to the November 15 deadline to facilitate the MSPR translation process.
We will continue to upload documents that arrive after this date, but, due to the high volume of documents received, we cannot guarantee they will be available in applicant accounts before the translation requests deadline for MSPRs.

Applicants can start selecting the programs to which they wish to apply and assigning requested documents.

There are two options to prove your citizenship/legal status. If you choose the option of verifying your citizenship/legal status through the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) you must first register for a physiciansapply.ca account, apply for your MCCQE Part I examination, and send the required documents to the MCC no later than this date. This will ensure that your citizenship/legal status will be verified by the application deadline of November 29 at 12:00 (noon) ET.

Medical School Performance Records (MSPR) and transcripts should arrive by today to guarantee they will be uploaded into applicant accounts before the opening of file review. Applicants can verify whether documents have been received through the Document Tracking section in CaRMS Online.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to follow university procedures to ensure their medical school transcript and MSPR are sent directly to CaRMS.
We will continue to upload documents that arrive after this date, but, due to the high volume of documents received, we cannot guarantee they will be available in applicant accounts before file review begins.

Referees must submit references through the CaRMS Online referee portal by this date to give applicants enough time to assign reference materials to programs before the opening of file review.
Referees can submit references after this date and time; however, this may impact the time available for applicants to submit complete applications to programs prior to the opening of file review.
If applicants would like their references to be translated by the CaRMS-facilitated translation service, they must be submitted before the translation request deadline.

Applications and all required documents must be submitted and assigned to programs by 12:00 (noon) ET today to be considered on time.
Any applications and documents submitted or assigned after 12:00 (noon) ET today will be time-stamped as late.
Some programs will not review late applications or documents. Consult program descriptions to ensure programs will review your application if it is submitted after file review has begun.

Programs now have access to all submitted applications and documents.
Programs may now start updating applicants’ interview offer status.
January 2025
14 January 2025
Programs are to complete all initial interview offer status updates in CaRMS Online by end of day. Official interview invitations must be distributed to applicants within five days of the interview status update in CaRMS Online.
18 January 2025 - 9 February 2025
Interviews for current-year Canadian medical school graduates from out-of-town universities are conducted during this period. Interviews for international medical graduates and applicants at their own schools are coordinated separately with no specific national interview period.
Programs are responsible for scheduling interviews with applicants directly.
23 January 2025 at 12:00 (noon) ET
Applicants and programs may begin creating their rank order lists in CaRMS Online.
February 2025
20 February 2025 at 15:00 ET
Applicants must submit their rank order list through CaRMS Online by 15:00 ET. This deadline is firm – no rank order lists can be submitted after this time.
March 2025
3 March 2025 at 12:00 (noon) ET
Postgraduate offices will receive summary reports. Canadian undergraduate offices will receive their faculty’s summary reports as well as a list of their faculty’s unmatched applicants who provided consent for their information to be released.
May 2025

This is the last day to access information in your CaRMS Online account for this match. You will no longer have access to the information in your application after this date.
